Philip Scott, in his 15th year teaching clarinet and saxophone at Cary School of Music, is a native of Cleveland He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baldwin-Wallace College, in 1972. That same year, Philip became the band director in Ripley, Ohio, and later on in Twinsburg, Ohio. Philip taught private clarinet lessons for many years at the Grabowski Music Company, and Koch School of Music. He also served as the clarinet section instructor at Baldwin-Wallace College Summer Music Clinic.
Philip performed as a clarinetist for a number of years with the Oberlin Music Theater Orchestra, Opus One Chamber Orchestra, and Blossom Festival Concert Band. As a saxophonist, he played with the Dan Zolla Big Band.
After moving to Raleigh in 1984, Philip pursued a career as a computer programmer/analyst, but kept his hand in music by teaching clarinet at the Raleigh Conservatory of Music, and performing with local amateur organizations including the Triangle Wind Ensemble, North Carolina Wind Orchestra, Raleigh Civic Orchestra, and Raleigh Symphony.
Currently, Philip is clarinetist with the Mimosa Woodwind Quintet. He is also a member of the handbell choir at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
